The clocks changed this weekend. Guess what I did? I changed the clocks on the oven and the microwave. Is this schizophrenic behaviour? You bet. But we live in schizophrenic times. Normally a month would go by until I finally took the 30 seconds or so to change the clocks that do not auto-adjust along with the return to summer time, but guess what? I had nothing else to do!
I've stopped caring for the past week. Not about life, but about the menace clouding our entire planet. I mean, whatever. We all die, we all die. Again, I haven't given up, but I guess what I'm saying is fatalism isn't the worst state of mind under the circumstances. And, you know, I kinda like that we're all in it together. It's better to go out all at once than with an audience of people feeling sorry for you. Again, I'm not saying we're doomed and we're all going to die. Really I'm not, it's just my way of thinking about Mr. Covid Virusescu right now. You know why? Because I got nothing else to to do, that's why!
The other day - yesterday - at work we were discussing an upcoming meeting and my manager says, "Want to do it at 6pm? I know it's late for you..." I said, "Don't think I can get away with telling you I have other plans -or even that I have something better to do." Which brings me to something I would like to discuss. I'll keep it at this one item for now, but in the next few days I think I'll post a list of 'Things That Are Better Now.'
I noticed -and, really, feel free to jump in if you think I'm off base here - but I could swear that with everybody working from home we're being more productive. Sure, part of it is more online time and not much else to do, but I also think that people, when they aren't pressured into spending an inordinate amount of time on social decor, just get on with what needs to be done. I also bet you that people have been having more productive, fulfilling, and exciting workdays in their pajamas than in business casual office wear. And my question is; armed with this knowledge - a knowledge that us home workers have kept to ourselves like greedy alchemists until now - how are people going to go back to the daily grind of office work believing that it is, 'the optimal work environment'?
So, among the several ongoing the-emperor-wears-no-clothes scenarios, this one stands out. Am I right, or amirite?
Oh, and in 'fun' Romanian Coronavirus stories, a man rode a horse from a his home in a rural Moldovan village to the city of Iasi to see his wife and newborn baby. He's got my vote for badass of the week. In less fun news, we've got the 'worst healthcare in the EU'.
