I've lost some steam here, it's not at all surprising though, is it?
On one hand, I have plenty of time to write an update a day, but on the other hand I don't want to make this a personal diary where I just talk about how I mowed the lawn, stepped out to the corner store for a liter of milk, or saw somebody other than my wife when I picked up a delivery. Or that I work longer hours now and after hours I share memes on What'sApp. And that I cook all the time. I could probably write a cooking blog now that I cook 3-4 times a week, which is a solid 300-400% increase in cooking output. On Monday I made a rabbit stew, of which there are still two portions left. That rabbit was in the freezer since sometime in the fall, maybe longer.
In the meantime the cases are still piling up in Romania, but not in a dramatic Italy or Spain style fashion. The prediction is we're going to see our peak sometime in early May and the current emergency measures will be in place until mid-May, at least. But I've had a couple of big days, three to be specific, where I stepped out into the world after filling out the form dutifully. Went to Auchan, where, after 10 days of lockdown, we were disappointed to leave without all the items on our list. So on Saturday we went to Kaufland where we were finally able to check everything off.
Interestingly, Auchan was (smelled) very sterile. There were also fewer people (or the place is bigger) than Kaufand, where it looked like many other Clujans in our neighbourhood thought it would be a good day to load up on groceries. Personally, my favorite part was the walk to the car through a sunny parking lot. I'd like to say I won't take little, insignificant things like this for granted again, but of course I will. It's not like I'll be hanging out in parking lots when this is all done. Finally, on Monday I took a little trip to the office for an office chair. The most surprising thing of all was all the traffic. It wasn't the typical traffic of course, far from it, but it was also far from a ghost town. For what it's worth, there is still a busily moving world out there, for some people.
But today truly was special. After the weekend's outdoor spring cleaning I fired up the BBQ and grilled some dogs. It felt normal, just like last year, only thing missing was the upstairs neighbor complaining about the smell. Speking of which, somebody up there is coughing up a lung every morning. Could be nothing, could be a coincidence, could be Covidiu Virusescu.
Well, enjoy your shopping!
